Uruguay is hardly a place where you’d expect to find much modern design – mid-century or otherwise – but a visit to the glamorous Punta del Este riviera, 85 miles east of Montevideo, changes all that.
We travelled along the coast to La Barra; a sleepy holiday town and an unexpected treasure trove. The place is packed with decorative antiques shops offering everything you need in order to inject a little style into your home. You’ll find an amazing array of mid-century modern design, glass, sensational ceramics, fabulous furniture a-go-go and floor-to-ceiling jumbles of shabby chic objects.
