Description
Miss Van (born Vanessa Alice in 1973, Toulouse, France) is a pioneering French street and fine artist widely recognised as one of the leading female figures in contemporary graffiti and street art. She began painting on the streets of Toulouse alongside fellow artist Mademoiselle Kat in the early 1990s, developing a distinctive visual language centred on her iconic poupées (French for “dolls”) – sensual, wide-eyed female characters with exaggerated curves, theatrical costumes, and enigmatic expressions.
Blurring the boundaries between street art and fine art, Miss Van’s work has appeared on walls around the world while also being exhibited in galleries across Europe and the United States, frequently alongside renowned artists such as Banksy, Faile, and Shepard Fairey. Her imagery explores themes of femininity, seduction, freedom, and transformation, often drawing inspiration from burlesque, folklore, circus performers, and vintage masquerade.
Created in 2008, this limited-edition screen print reflects a pivotal period in Miss Van’s career, when her work increasingly incorporated dreamlike and theatrical influences. The same year, she produced works such as Clown with Rainbow Weasel from her Still a Little Magic series, featuring her signature doll-like figures adorned in vintage clown makeup and blending circus motifs with her unmistakable style.
Now based in Barcelona, Miss Van has published several books with Drago Publishing, curated exhibitions across Europe, and collaborated with fashion designer Anaoana on a collection of clothing and accessories under the Miss Van & Anaoana label. Today, she remains one of the most recognisable artists to emerge from the international street art movement, celebrated for transforming the visual language of graffiti through her distinctive and evocative female protagonists.
