Description
This table was designed in 1928 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the Tugendhat Villa, however it’s more commonly known as the ‘Barcelona’ coffee table after the table was exhibited at the German Pavilion at the Barcelona Exposition of 1929. One of the leading modernists and architects, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe created an distinguished body of work; from tubular steel furniture to iconic office buildings that influenced generations of architects worldwide.
This low table, uses an X-shaped frame finished in polished chrome and Starphire glass, which, with a lower iron content, gives the glass an exceptionally clear and crystal-like quality. Knoll acquired the licence for this table in 1952 and continues to produce this table today.
Awards: The Museum of Modern Art Award 1977.
